Nude
An intimate watercolor portrait depicting a nude woman and two people. Fascinated by the human figure, this watercolor showcases Nicoll’s signature composition (figures), but varies from his 1970’s collections by including additional people, not intertwined. With that unusual component of the onlookers, it foreshadows his shift in focus come the 1980’s.
Nicoll was born 1925 in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he started painting by the age of 7 and continued until his passing at 95. Following his time in the Royal Air Force, he attended Dundee College of Art where he won a traveling art scholarship around Europe which led to his move to London. Nicoll’s works have been exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, the RA (Royal Academy), the AIA Gallery, the Piccadilly Gallery, the Victor Arwas Gallery, the Redfern Gallery, the Camden Arts Centre, and the Highgate Gallery.
