Column Table Lamp
The Column Table lamp features an opaque acrylic square column lamp with brass fittings and hardware. Designed by Paul Mayen in the 1960s for Habitat Inc, an American manufacturer established during the 1950s.
Mayen was a Spanish American architect and industrial designer. From La Linea de la Concepción, Spain Mayen earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Cooper Union Art School in New York City and a Master’s degree from Columbia during WWII. During his time in art school in the 1950s, Mayen met his life partner, Edgar Kaufmann Jr., whose parents notably commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to build Fallingwater. With this connection, Mayen designed the now Visitor's Center for Fallingwater. Additionally, Mayen designed many notable works for Habitat Inc, with works in MoMA’s 1953 Good Design Show.
The Column Table lamp is commonly seen in its glass variation, however, manufacturing the squared off lines in glass proved troublesome. The acrylic edition equally showcases a beautiful warm glow in addition to better production and long term durability.
