Limited untitled lithography of a nude from behind numbered 60/130, and signed, exemplifies Claude Gaveau’s mysterious and emotional style.
Gaveau mastered the harmonies of color, structure and emotion through multiple inspirations: landscapes, seascapes, nudes, couples, still lifes and florals. Seeming to withdraw from reality, yet not abstract, his unique style has an element of mystery, suggesting rather than defining, with diffused indications of form often set against blocks of intense color.
Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a western suburb of Paris, led him to ultimately attending the Ecole des Arts Appliqués in Paris, where he learned the disciplines of mural and fresco painting, tapestry design and stained glass making. Gaveau then went on to study for six years at Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris building on his skillset to be accomplished in oil painting, watercolor, drawing and lithography.
During this education, Gaveau secured a scholarship to study Flemish in Belgium where he had his first solo exhibition in Brussels at Galerie de l'Angle Aigu in 1965. More exhibits quickly followed through the 1960’s and 70’s before Gaveau had his first solo-exhibit in New York City with Wally Findlay Galleries. This exhibit and relationship with Wally Findlay Galleries launched Gaveau into international success with shows in Paris, New York, Chicago, Tokyo, and Beverly Hills.
